I Just Got Married
But I didn’t have the chance to read my wedding vows…
Before I decided to marry my husband, I had never given much thought to marriage or to my wedding day. I know there are people who fantasize about their wedding from early childhood and have romantic thoughts about sharing the rest of their life with their partner, but that’s not my case.
I didn’t grow up in a picture-perfect family, and this is probably the reason why I never dreamed of getting married. My parents didn’t have an easy life, or a happy marriage, and listening to them arguing didn’t exactly make me want to tie the knot ASAP.
Nevertheless, even though I never actually thought much about being married or having children, I never gave up on the idea of starting my own little happy family.
I never gave up on the idea that I, personally, could have a healthy and happy relationship with someone, despite the fact that I had been a silent witness to fights and arguments all my childhood.
And here am I. Married, and very happy to be.
My husband and I didn’t follow the rules (if there are any). Ours was not a traditional wedding: the civil wedding ceremony happened on September 1st, and the party took place on September 25. An unconventional and probably messy way to celebrate the event, and…
